Dog Bites

In New York State, a dog bite victim is required to prove that the dog’s owner knew, or should have known, that the dog had vicious propensities before the attack occurred.  New York is the last State in the nation that has not repealed this requirement.  Therefore, it is important to perform a thorough investigation as soon as possible after an attack.

We usually send an investigator to interview neighbors, the mail carrier and other people who may have knowledge about the dog’s behavior, as well as to photograph the property where the dog was kept to show whether there are any “beware of dog” signs or other indications of the dog’s presence.  We also obtain veterinary records.  A careful and thorough investigation early on is important to build a strong case, which we do for our clients.
